As legal cannabis spreads, growers go organic — and beyond

This 1,800-word article for Environmental Health News is the second of four pieces on cannabis and environmental health I've been working on this year. (The other two will be coming out in the next month or two.) It covers how cultivation practices are becoming cleaner and more sophisticated in fully legal markets. Reporting was a blast, as it involved visiting two local farms -- one indoor and one outdoor -- as well as talking with three or four other West Coast growers about their practices. Most of this was new to me, but I learned a lot and am starting to get a better hold on this incredible plant, how it's grown, how it's regulated, how the industry works, and the implications of all this for human health and the environment. Give it a read here. Enjoy!
