Endocrine disruptors and the endocannabinoid system: new article for Project CBD
My debut for the website Project CBD (which covers cannabinoid science, the endocannabinoid system, and other cannabis-related subjects) is my third story looking at the intersection of environmental health.
The first two, both long features for Environmental Health Perspectives, looked at the testing and regulation of contaminants on cannabis flower and other products in legal markets. This piece reviews research over the last two decades into interactions between endocrine-disrupting chemicals and the endocannabinoid system (ECS).
The bottom line? It appears very likely that the ECS mediates at least some of the health effects of, and is an indirect or even direct target of, many if not all common endocrine disruptors including BPA, parabens, phthalates, and organophosphate pesticides.
